Overview

This safari will take you to the unique biodiversity of rainforest habitat and its eastern lowland gorillas. These are different from Mountain gorillas and are mainly found in the DRC. Immerse yourself in the wild and spot the gorillas in their natural habitat. In this 4 day safari, you will explore Kahuzi-Biega National Park, a park recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site, in 1980.

Itinerary

Day 1
Arrive in Goma at 12:40 pm under the beautiful African sky. Our guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you to Tchegera Island Retreat on Lake Kivu. Your weekend adventure will give you a chance to unwind after a week at work. Arrive in Lake Kivu and relax as you enjoy the tranquillity of Lake Kivu and its myriad of bird species. The activities on the island include kayaking, paddleboarding and snorkelling.
Day 2
Awake at dawn for a leisurely breakfast on the island. This will be followed by your transfer to Bukavu on the speed boat that departs at 10 am. Arrive in Bukavu in the afternoon and check in at your hotel.
Day 3
Enjoy your breakfast before departing to the Tshivanga Station where your gorilla trekking at Kahuzi Biega National park will begin. Our guide will provide you with a briefing on lowland gorilla tracking. Your trek will take you to the narrow jungle paths where you will meet the gorillas.

The duration of the hike depends on the location of the gorillas. The gorillas move around in search of food. Some days the hike can take about 20 to 40 minutes and other days the trek can take more than an hour. Come face to face with man’s closest cousin in their natural habitat. Bring your camera and capture the remarkable moments during this interaction.

After the trek, you can enjoy a nature walk in Kahuzi Biega park (optional). Visit Tshibati waterfalls, the research Centre or a pygmy village that is on the outskirts of the park. You can also visit orphaned primates, different kinds of baboons, monkeys and snakes found in the Lwiro sanctuary. After this lifetime experience, return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 4
Awake to a leisurely breakfast before departing on the speedboat. Your destination is Goma Airport where you will catch your flight back to Nairobi. Your brief but delightful gorilla trekking safari has come to an end.
